Product Description

The 10’11” Hala Playa uses our rigid Carbon Construction™ to create an insanely rigid board for elite performance and a hardboard-feel. The full rocker lets you surf from anywhere on the board as the 4.75” low volume rails carve into the face of the wave.

The Playa doubles as a touring board with its length speed. Rig up extra gear for the day with the 4 soft rigging points and head out to the sandbar to shred. But the best part? Roll up and roll out at the end of the day with a travel-ready board.

Explore the freedom and own any surf, anywhere, with the Hala Playa.

Board Tech Details – We’re obsessed to deliver the best!

Full Rocker
The full rocker is responsive and snappy whether you’re carving from the back or walking to the nose. Catch waves from way outside with the speed of the Playa. Learn more about Hala’s rockers.
Carbon Construction™
You get an elite board that performs like a hardboard with the portability and durability of an inflatable. This is not your run of the mill stringer technology. These boards have measured up to three times more rigid in flex testing than your standard inflatable. Unidirectional Carbon + Fusion Drop Stitch is combined with aramid fibers and compressed at 200,000lbs by an extremely high end machine in California. But don’t just take our word for it, get on a board and feel the difference! Learn more about Hala’s board construction.
Sleek New Outline
This year we’ve streamlined the Playa to be a ridiculously fun blend of longboard surf with touring mixed in. Paddle the miles to your favorite secluded break! Learn more about Hala’s board Outlines..
10’11” Touring Board Length
The 10’11” length of this board gives riders the opportunity for crossover use as a touring board, whether you’re paddling to an island for lunch or headed around the point to your favorite break.
4.75” Low Volume Rails
With the slimmest rails, you can dig into the wave and ride the rail all the way down your line.
4 Soft & Centralized Rigging Points
Soft rigging gives you the durability of our triple reinforced metal D-Rings without knuckle busting. Centralized rigging moves the rigging points closer to the deck pad and can be safer due to reduced space between rigging straps and loaded gear.
Leash D-Ring
A triple-reinforced D-ring is located on the back of the board to attach your leash onto. But remember, using a leash properly requires knowledge and attention.
One Front and One Back Rubber Handles
Carry this board easily with the help of a friend to and from the water while all your gear stays secured.
Foot index
Located just before the stomp pad is raised EVA on your deck pad. It is a small, centralized rectangle so you can easily step your foot back to the center of the board without ever taking your eyes off the water.
Stomp Pad
A 1.5” stomp pad allows for precise control and maneuverability of your board.
Travel-Ready Board
A board that can go anywhere, this board packs up and rolls out with you. Combined with any of our travel paddles, you’ll have the ultimate, portable setup for adventure.
3-Year Warranty
The best in the business. We’re confident about the capability and durability of our boards. That’s why we’re willing to back it with an industry-leading 3-year warranty. We’ve got your back!

It’s a great inflatable Surf Sup that is perfect for the ocean life…from catching waves to paddle sprints out passed the break, it’s an amazing board for the salty mermaid!

This is my first review on any item I have ever purchased. After seeing only 1 review on the Playa I thought adding mine would help others in their quest for an awesome Hala ISUP. I am a true novice when it comes to SUP. As many, my 1st experience was a fiberglass board and I immediately became an enthusiast. The concept of riding an “air mattress” did not seem appealing but my need to have a travel capable board was priority. Like you, I did as much research as possible before spending some serious hard earned money on something unseen or tried. Thanks to Hala’s website Rating system, made the decision, contacted Hala, purchased Playa and the Grafik travel paddle, had 2 boxes on my door step, unboxed, repacked the Hala Backpack in an oversized army duffle bag and hand carried the paddle & hand pump onto an airplane bound for ST Thomas, USVI.

For my situation the Playa has exceeded my expectations. I am 5’11” at 195 lbs. I paddle in Caribbean bays and open water. I needed an ISUP that was designed more for open waters. The Playa has increased my confidence in the sport and has standard features not easily found on many other ISUPs. I won’t list them here as they are on the website but I am very impressed with Hala and my Playa.

I did have a question about “learn how to prime your hand pump prior to first use” and emailed Hala. To my surprise, I did get an immediate response from Pavla who was awesome! Thank You! Answer was my pump did not need to be primed.

I think the question for Hala is if they are looking to make a sale or create a deeper customer loyalty driving more sales from delighted owners talking to curious strangers. In my time on STT there were many people interested in the world of ISUPs.
I have an expression I now enjoy using when people on the beach have a conversation about my Playa, “Hala-lujah!”

Actually picked this up about a week after I bought a Hoss. I wanted a board that could still get some speed on flat water while also being able to carry gear. I’ve done a handful of ocean/downriver trips and love it!

The Carbon Playa is leaps and bounds from the originally Playa. Love the ease of the under 50 lbs board, Grafik travel paddle and durable roll-bag combo for air travel when fling from Mountains to the playa. Found it easy to surf mellow waves, super stable and tracked amazing beyond the break.

Hala Fun! Kayaked for years but gotta be honest this carbon playa is very versatile……makes me not want to kayak ever again. I am 5’4″ 120 lbs and have great stability and speed on this board. Tracking is impressive. Mine did not come with a paddle as previous reviewer said but that’s all right I bought one I wanted that breaks down for travel and is also light weight. The roll bag is terrific it includes back pack straps as well for hikes in to rivers. Looking forward to many outings with my new inflatable.

When I told friends I had ordered the Hala Carbon Playa, they thought I was nuts. They asked if I had tried the board out somewhere, and I told them I had not. They urged me to cancel the order until after I had a chance to try one, but I would not. I had done my research – days and days of research, not just hours – and my decision was made. And today, as I put my new Playa in the water, I knew I made not only the right decision for me, but also the best possible one.

I read that the Carbon Playa “rivals a hardboard.” Who are they kidding? Fully inflated, it IS a hardboard. Rap it with your knuckles and hear for yourself the same knock you get from rapping on a non-inflatable. Everything about the board itself is exactly what they promise – a versatile-use board that won’t disappoint. And oh, by the way, it’s easy to take it anywhere, because this hardboard manages to defy logic and roll right up once deflated.

The 12v car pump that comes with it, admittedly, is underwhelming at first, and a bit puzzling. It’s light-weight and all the instructions wrapped with it are in a beautiful Asian calligraphy that I can’t read. There are some pictures that give an understanding that the top hole is for intake and the side hole for expelling air. But it seems to be anybody’s guess as to which of the three adapters to use (use the larger of the three.) Fortunately, the board’s owner’s manual says to put the exhaust right onto the inflation plug and that works. And, surprisingly, it works well. It does fill the board to 1 to 2 psi, as the owner’s manual states, and does so quickly.

Once the car pump did its part, I found it best to start using the hand pump set to double-action, then switch to single-action once the pumping gets more difficult (at about 10psi for me.) I was impressed at the efficiency of the pump pair as I was able to fully inflate the board in under 10 minutes. Still, I would recommend getting the electric pump with automatic shut-off at the desired psi if you are going to frequently inflate and deflate the board.

I was impressed with Hala’s carbon boards after doing my research, and I’m doubly impressed now that I have the Playa in hand. I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a SUP, even if you think you’re not looking for an inflatable. And hey – even if you ARE looking for an inflatable, you’re definitely at the right place here!

The Hala Playa is hands down the greatest all-around board for ocean paddlers. It is super fun in the waves and easily tracks and carves a bottom turn. You can quickly shoot down the line and surf this baby. I regularly take it to Doheny State Beach in Orange County, CA – a mecca for SUP surfing – and the board always garners interest from fellow paddlers. Super, super fun! Very stable and and Carbon Hybrid Construction is amazing and offers the same performance as similar sized hardboard, with all the benefits of an inflatable. The Hala Playa is also great for touring/exploring along the coast. I’ve taken it around the Palos Verdes Peninsula exploring giant kelp beds and launched and recovered off rocky beaches, e.g. places no hardboard can go. If you are an ocean paddler you owe it to yourself to have a Hala Playa in your quiver. If you are a beginner paddler looking for a board you can grow with, get the Hala Playa. If you are an experienced paddler looking for a super fun board to surf and explore on, get the Hala Playa. All in the convenience of a roll-away backpack.

All I can say about this board is that I wish I had more of these boards. Great board very sturdy and fast. I can pack a day pack and go explore. I live in Florida so there’s all kinds of flat water, to rivers, to surf. This board performs well with whatever is thrown at it. Cuts and turns well with surf. Cant feel the difference between a hardboard and this board. The carbon stringer makes it feel just like a hardboard.

I just took the Carbon Playa out on the Willamette River, near the town on Independence. The board preform better than expected on moving water and the board is very playful. The fin was too long in one shallow area, but it was no problem with the flexible fin.

It’s yellow! This is a board I bought for myself, a small (like me) low volume board that I can just have fun on. I’m a very petite girl, and all my other boards have a lot more volume, but that’s ok because I usually paddle with an extra 90 pounds. But sometimes, though rarely, I like to play around by myself, or paddle some laps when the dogs are playing on a sandbar. And so this board is just perfect for that.

In the past I’ve found lower volume inflatables less rigid, but that’s not the case with the Hala Playa. The Carbon fiber stringers makes the board so rigid, I sometimes forget there’s a bed of air between me and the water.

It’s honestly the least stable board I have I my quiver this year, and it’s much more comfortable with one dog instead of two, even though the three of us can still manage.

It came in handy this year on our annual Fourth of July trip home to Angola on the Lake. My brother-in-law bought a boat, and we had so much fun being towed around on it.

The weight of the board is also a nice plus. It’s so much lighter than my Hala Nass, which has been the board I usually travel with. I love that it takes up just a little less room in the back of my SUV, and is just a bit easier to toss up on the roof rack.

Bottom line is if you’re a smaller framed person, and have a small to medium sized dog and you’re looking for a board to just have fun on, this is a great option! I’m very happy with the Playa, it’s been a great addition this season.

The Playa is the perfect board for surfing small – medium waves and flat-water touring.
The Playa also travels really well. The roller bag has plenty of room for the board and your gear (pfd, 3-piece paddle, pumps, leash, fins). I would recommend getting a leash and some extra center fins for the Playa. The 3” Stubby Gummy Center fin turns this board into a whitewater racer and the 9” Race fin improves performance for miles of flat-water paddling.
I’ve had my Playa for about a year and it’s my 3rd inflatable SUP. The quality and thoughtfulness of the Playa are clear. I’ve taken my Playa to Costa Rico, Portugal, Italy, FL beaches, and MN lakes. On Lake Jocassee, in SC, I loaded the Playa with camp gear and toured the lake and it’s waterfalls. I had no trouble keeping up with the canoes and kayaks in our group.
If you’re just getting into SUP, this is a fun, versatile first board. Later you could add a nice and wide, white-water board (Atcha) to your quiver and you’ll be ready for SUP adventures anywhere.
