Quick-Release Convertible SUP Leash

Love this leash. High quality. You can use it for flat water paddling and for whitewater. Highly recommend.

Great coil leash. I love that it is a bright color and easy to see. 6 ft is the perfect length and the quick release is simple and incredibly well made.

I'm still alive! I use this off my quick release PFD, so pulling the ball behind me would be tricky but it's nice to know I have it as a backup in case my PFD quick release failed somehow.

Strong leash. Used several times in whitewater after a SUP "swim."

This leash is thoughtfully put together and works great. The length is perfect and the coil feature makes it so it is hard to get tangled up in it. The removable ankle attachment is also a great idea for the times you may be paddling flat water. Highly recommend!

Good quality, long enough, easy to operate

This thing is a literal lifesaver, luckily I haven’t had to personally had to pull it but the fact that this leash is part of my kit gives me a sense of confidence and safety. Thanks Hala

Works well, looks great, and it's Hala so you know the quality is fantastic. It's shorter than most coiled leashes. That can be both good and bad depending on your needs, but I prefer it.

Well built and extremely functional. I love that I can use it attached to my pfd in the river or for ankle attachment when just cruising on flat water. The components and thought put into his piece of equipment are top notch; as would be expected from everything else I’ve experienced with Hala.

The 7’ leash makes a difference. I had the 9’ leash, but I really like the 7’ length as it keeps the board that much closer to you. Nice to have the ankle option for flatwater

Best quick-release leash out there as recommended by the River SUP guy. I replaced my other DIY quick-release leash since the waist secondary (back-up) release kept releasing too quickly, I didn't want to lose my board! I also like the fused D-ring in the waist attachment - prior leash had a plastic D-ring which broke on a class 2 run. The shorter coiled leash is good; my prior coiled longer leash caught my Astral shoelaces after a class 3 rapid on the Main Salmon (my feet are too small for Astral Hiyaks-I've asked Astral twice for smaller sizes with a resounding "no) Overall, great leash!

The leash itself and the ankle attachment get 5 stars, I love the short 7ft length for whitewater. But the quick release is 2+ stars... Yes, it'll work. But the ball is VERY small. When I'm swimming and need to feel around for it, I'd much prefer a larger ball to find/pull. Compared to other quick releases on whitewater PFDs and waist throw bags, it's only half the size. Maybe they assume you'll have a rescue PFD on and therefore won't need to find the quick release pull. The second con is the carabiner... It, too, is much smaller than a full sized carabiner and it is a manual locking one. Sooo, when reaching around to clip it onto the back of my PFD it's quite awkward trying to reach while screwing it closed, or asking a buddy to do it for you. Alternatively, you could attach it to your PFD before putting on your PFD, but that also seems awkward. It'd be much better if it were a regular sized auto-lock/twist-lock carabiner. Yes it will weigh just a little more, but so much easier to use. I will end up changing the included carabiner out for exactly that.

Purchased the 7' for my Hala Radito and "Other" Colorado River Surfer. This Convertible Re-Leash from Hala is well thought out. When out on the flats or in the ocean, I cuff it to my ankle. Its coiled design stays out of the way while allowing me ease of movement. When out on the river, I attach it to my pfd. Once again, the coiled design keeps everything up and out of the way, when stepping on a leash should be the least of my concerns. Should I get into any trouble, I can quickly release it and be off to safety.

I got the 7' leash for whitewater use after a couple years with longer leashes. I love it. My previous 9 or 10 foot leashes (especially the looser feeling ones) would often get caught around my fins or my leg by the time I got back on my board after a forced swim. The 7' has a nice tight coil that has really decreased the amount of time I spend pulling my leash off a fin. The release mechanism is great and is a little more heavy-duty than a similar one on the market. You never want to do whitewater without some kind of break-away strategy for your leash, and you definitely don't want it attached to your ankle. If it gets caught on a sweeper or something, your just not going to reach your ankle with the force of the river on you. I just clip to the strap on a rescue pfd for my release method, but now I have a really good release system for my backup/loaner leash that will work well with most pfds.
