Editor's Note: At the time of posting, we recommending paddling Lake Johnson in Raleigh, NC. There’s no swimming or wading allowed in Lake Jonson because the water features toxic algae that is harmful to canines. We also recommended Cheney Lake, Anchorage but we've since heard that this is, in fact, NOT the move and not the best place to paddle in Alaska.
