Product Description

Based off our best selling Classic Straight Up board, this all-around board is aimed towards new SUP adventurers.

The progressive rocker creates a fun ride on any water. And being a tad narrower and shorter than the Rival Hoss, the smaller board size of the Rival Straight Up is ideal for those looking for a faster ride and more maneuverable board.

It is also optimal for our smaller all-around riders. Fusion Construction™ makes this board extremely lightweight, durable, and easy to transport. And we take the preparation work out of it, offering our Fusion Construction boards in a straight-to-water package.

Grab the Rival Straight Up and get on the water.

Board Tech Details – We’re obsessed to deliver the best!

Progressive Rocker
The Rival Straight Up has a progressive rocker that is designed to be playful in the waves and snappy along the river. The nose rocker is punchy, the middle is reasonably flat, and the tail rocker gives you quick directional control, striking a balance between the sportiness of the full rocker and the speed of glide rocker.

Straight-To-Water Package
Like all of our Fusion Construction™ boards, the Straight Up comes complete with a Rival Aluminum travel paddle and travel-tough rolling backpack (View the What’s In The Bag section above) so you have all the necessities to head straight to the water.

8 D-Ring Rigging Points
Triple-reinforced D-Rings provide rigging points to strap on your gear and keeps it secure as you paddle.

Leash D-Ring
A triple-reinforced D-ring is located on the back of the board to attach your leash onto. But remember, using a leash properly requires knowledge and attention.

Croc Skin EVA Deck Pad
The Fusion Construction boards have a deck pad with “croc skin” texture that provides grip and traction and is smooth and gentle on the feet.

Step Flat Handle with Removable Neoprene Handle Cover
A sliver of the deck pad is removed from under the handle so that it “steps flat”. No more of your handle getting in the way while you’re walking your line. A removable padded neoprene handle provides comfortability for carrying the board.

Stomp Pad
A 1.5” stomp pad allows for precise control and maneuverability of your board.

Travel-Ready Board
A board that can go anywhere, this board packs up and rolls out with you. Combined with any of our travel paddles, you’ll have the ultimate, portable setup for adventure.

I just got to try out my Rival Straight Up on the Fowl River in Alabama, which ranged from glass-calm to mad wind and waves. While I was skeptical as to how much control I’d have on this lighter board (7 months pregnant), I was thoroughly impressed by its stability. Now, it’s definitely not *as* stable/heavy as Hala’s originals, but it’s still basically impossible to tell it’s an inflatable. And boy is this thing easy to carry a distance on land. I am a huge fan of the Croc skin deck pad that didn’t bug my bare feet after gripping it for almost 3 hours, I love that the side fins are permanently in the board so I don’t have the option to lose them, and the fact that this thing comes with a sturdy-yet-light paddle and durable rolling bag (at this price!) just makes it a no-brainer for those looking for an all-around board. Hala back, Rival series!

The Rival SU is a great board at an incredible price. It performs well in all conditions and is very lightweight but still durable. The traditional all-around shape is aesthetically pleasing and highly functional.

  3. 5 out of 5

The lightness of the Rival SU along with its high stability makes it the perfectly functional board. Its easy to carry either pumped or packed and is really tough. Living in the tropics, the sun hits hard, and its proven super durable. Also, the soft deck pad makes it very confortable for long paddles, either going easy or paddling hard (It has been my loyal companion on my recent free-diving expeditions). Lots of friends have been on this board and no matter their level everybody loves it! Definitely a top choice for an all-around board.

I run rentals & instruction up here in Alaska for SUP … I have 24 boards all shapes & sizes hard shell & Inflatable & have been at it for 5 seasons now if I was forced to carry only one board for everything ( I am 5’7′ 155 lbs ) this is the Board I would choose. I have a 80 lb Akita I like to bring down the river & even w/ her on deck this board does every thing you ask of it ! Step to the back seat set your foot on the raised tail pad raise the nose & the Straight Up will spin turn on a dime … for my size the BEST BALANCED ALL-AROUND Inflatable I have Paddled so far Built like a Tank … Makes Love to rivers / flat-water / & even a small 2 ft surf… so if your New to Standing Up This is the board I would recommend ( if your under 180 lbs …. ) You can also feel good about buying a product that is made to last & not just end up in a Landfill in a couple years. These Boards are not pool toys they will Last a long time if you take care of them. I still have my first Hala from 2013 … oh ya the Staff at Hala has always been very knowledgeable & fast to respond to my Questions & concerns from way Up North in Alaska ( you don’t find this very often when you work over the phone )

I love how easily this board maneuvers and its stability in the water. A couple of pounds lighter and shorter than my Hala Asana, this board is easy for my kids to carry. The deck pad is comfortable, even when I’m on my knees, and all the tie downs allow for plenty of gear to take on trips. Can’t beat the warranty!

The Straight Up is such a versatile board for flat water fun. Definitely a favorite among family & friends. Whether it’s your only board, or an addition to a fleet, the Straight Up is must- have.

I’ve taken this board in the Atlantic, Pacific, rivers and lakes. The whole kit is light enough for air travel, I think it was 30 something pounds with everything in the travel bag. Stable and easy to maneuver. Very pleased with my purchase.

Every year I fill up my garage with a teaching quiver for my SUP PUP Clinics. And over the years of teaching these classes, I’ve come to believe that inflatables are my preferred types of boards to teach with.

First, they’re just so much more durable. We start each class with the boards in the sand, and the dogs jump on and off of them, often times really working the bottoms in the sand. They get dragged from my car to the beach, to the water, and sometimes smashed into the side of the dock. When this happens with a hard board I cringe. When it happens with my Hala inflatables, I don’t give it a second thought.

Second, the dogs are just so much more comfortable on inflatables than hard boards. I’ve noticed how the big dogs treats inflatables like giant dog beds. The look of relaxation in their eyes is unmistakable. I even see it with my own dogs. Riley, who’s now 11 lays down and relaxes on our inflatables much sooner than he does with my hard board.

This year the Hala Rival Straight Up was a big hit with all my students. It was super stable for every body type and dog combo that used it. It was also nice and light as I loaded and unloaded it from my car all summer for lessons.

The handles and D-rings add value and convenience Oh, and the price point is comfortable when the inevitable questions about how much they cost comes up.

There’s not much to complain about with this board, I would even call it a one board quiver. It’s just a great, stable, light all around board!
