Why I love to SUP and how I discovered it: I love anything that plays with balance especially if it is outdoors and on the water, even better. My introduction to SUP came a bit fast and furious (literally) as I had just arrived at the New River Gorge in West Virginia and my friend asked me right away if I wanted to SUP the Upper New (class 3+) and raft the Lower New that afternoon.
I had never SUPed whitewater before and upon telling her this her answer was “you surf, you’ll totally be fine”. Well a good challenge is always fun and I had an absolute blast learning quickly how to navigate whitewater & drop to my knees. It was not really like surfing at all but I was totally hooked and had a blast!!

The body of water you’ll most likely find me on… crystal clear flat water spots over beautiful reefs here in PR or whitewater & some big lakes back home in the States

Which boards I’m riding? Hala Atcha 8’6” & 9’6” and Yoga Asana

Which one is my favorite? … I love the maneuverability of the 8’6” in more technical bodies of water and the Yoga Asana board is awesome for flat water yoga & AcroYoga sessions!

My next dream paddling adventure is… Spring whitewater adventures in Upstate NY!

What I do when I am not paddling? Surf, climb, mountain bike, slackline, yoga, acroyoga, gardening and putting together and leading adventure retreats with Redefining Balance

What you love about Hala Gear: Being a traveler, and a lover of mountains, rivers, lakes and oceans, it has always been important for me to have a board that could do everything. I love the stability of the Hala boards when I practice yoga and teach my classes. The Hala Atcha is my fave for yoga, but I also love the Straight Up and the Hoss. They are not only stable, but they are easy to grip and all of my students love them. The mobility of being able to pack them up and travel wherever my partner and I please makes them even better. Whether we are in the ocean around Hawaii, or going down the Colorado River, or teaching on the lakes around Vail, I truly have never found a board I liked better than these.

Favorite Spot to Paddle: Mountain lakes, it makes it easier to go through a flow.

Why I love to SUP and how I discovered it… I love being on water in the landlocked state of Colorado. The whole river culture has added so much joy and dimension to my summers! I found river paddle boarding in 2012 and was instantly hooked by the adrenaline and incorporated yoga on the board in between rapids for fun and focus.

The body of water you’ll most likely find me on… I enjoy paddling anything new and challenging but my favorite stretch of river is on the Eagle right in my backyard.

Which boards I’m riding? Which one is my favorite? I’m very attached to my Hala Atcha. It usually keeps me on my feet! It’s so playful but stable and highly forgiving. It’s my all time favorite. I love practicing surfing waves on my Hala Peno and I prefer to teach SUP yoga on this board. The shorter length keeps yoga challenging for me and I can paddle in and out of students very quickly to keep them safe.

What I do when I am not paddling? When I’m not paddling or teaching SUP Yoga I’m playing teleskiing, tennis, learning golf, practicing yoga, river rafting, seeing live music or traveling. Life is good!

Why I love to SUP and how I discovered it… As an outdoor enthusiast I am always looking for new ways to enjoy recreation on the water. Wrestling my raft, frame, oars, etc. sometimes felt like too much hassle for a few hours of fun on the river. A friend came to visit with 2 SUP’s one day…we went out for a 4 hour paddle on the Colorado River and the rest is history. I was hooked!

The body of water you’ll most likely find me on… My home base river is the Colorado since it’s right out my back door! The Green is also nearby so you may catch me there as well When I’m practicing and teaching SUP yoga you can find me at Colorado River State Park at Connected Lakes

Which boards I’m riding? Which one is my favorite? … Currently I’m riding the Atcha and love it! It’s sporty in whitewater and great for SUP yoga. I’m excited to try the new Asana for SUP yoga this season.

My next dream paddling adventure is… The Salmon River… I have heard wonderful stories and seen spectacular photos, now it’s time to experience that river in person!

What I do when I am not paddling? As a Colorado native, outdoor recreation has always been an important part of my life. In fact nature fuels my soul. I’m fortunate to have a job that incorporates paddling by working with an adaptive recreation organization called Colorado Discover Ability. I believe the outdoors should be accessible to all people and that includes SUP! In the winter you’ll find me skiing. In the spring, summer and fall I’m on my bike, rafting or hiking with my family. I have two amazing kids that light up my life and keep me young. As my friend Harry says, “Every day is a good day, some are just better.”

Why I love to SUP and how I discovered it…
I have always loved the water. Ocean, rivers, hot springs. Living in Colorado since age 22 and being a professional skier, my vacations and activities mostly focused on snow. When my profession was no longer season dependent, I was able to weave water back into my life. A self-proclaimed “boater on leave” since my early 30’s (kayaker gone scared), SUP gently welcomed me back to the water with a smile and lots of laughs. It was accessible, it got me out on the water after my long hiatus, and it was fun!!!
Rachel Brathen’s Sup Yoga Class on Lake Dillon (May 2013) was my first introduction to SUP and SUP YOGA…It was love at first sight. I was hooked and inspired to share this budding sport with EVERYONE!!! That same weekend, I met fellow Hala Ambassador Julie Circo, and we started scheming about bringing Sup Yoga to Summit. Hala has been the main board provider for our Sup Yoga Program through Meta Yoga Studios ever since.

The body of water you’ll most likely find me on…
Lake Dillon for dawn-patrol paddles and the Colorado State Bridge area for some river fun.

Which boards I’m riding? Which one is my favorite? …
I am currently bounce between the Asana for SUP YOGA and Lake Paddling and the Atcha 9’6, stable enough for SUP YOGA, but playful enough for the rivers.

My next dream paddling adventure is…
For me it’s just getting time on the rivers locally in Colorado putting more time in exploring my backyard: Upper C, Glenwood area, Salida and Buena Vista.

What I do when I am not paddling?
When I’m not paddling, I’m riding my mountain bike, playing in the garden or hanging out with our cats and chickens.

Why I love to SUP and how I discovered it…
I love SUP Yoga and SUP Acro because it forces me to clean my practice. There’s little room for error before I splash! I discovered the practice in Puerto Rico while racing a triathlon. The safety officers were on SUPs and they allowed me to play on one. My brother – my biggest fan – requested a forearm balanced on the board. I thought it was impossible. He didn’t. Thanks to him I balanced upside down on my first attempt. I was instantly hooked.

The body of water you’ll most likely find me on…
Most likely… on a pool while teaching a retreat!

Which boards I’m riding? Which one is my favorite? …
I have the Asana and the Atcha. The Atcha is my favorite. Is is super stable! Plus, I love having the option of throwing it down a river whenever possible.

My next dream paddling adventure is…
Planning on going down to Big Bend in the near future.

What I do when I am not paddling?
Slackline Yoga, AcroYoga, traveling, teaching, working on my computer for way too long or standing on my hands.

Why I love to SUP and how I discovered it… After learning to SUP in the Hawaiian waters over 15 years ago, I quickly learned that there’s nothing a good day of paddling won’t cure ! Stand Up Paddling is some of the best therapy out there for the body…for the soul…for the mind.

The body of water you’ll most likely find me on… As a SUP guide for all ages and abilities on I am on the Ridgway Resevior and often getting requests for yoga classes. I also love the challenge of SUPing white water and standing waves.

Which boards I’m riding? Which one is my favorite? … Anxiously waiting to try the stomp box design so that when I hit a rock on the river bottom I don’t go flying, also eager to put the the new Asana Yoga specific board to the test. The Atcha is currently my favorite.

My next dream paddling adventure is… Soon to go to Mallorca, Spain, then to Portugal, so I will find any water that can to Surf-Sup. Then dreaming of a trip to SUP the inland water ways of France. Such a great way to meet people when traveling as there is so much curiuosity.

What I do when I am not paddling? I love to eat, travel, mt. bike, hike, create art, fly fish, listen to Gerry Garcia, take workshops with friends, and raft when I am not on my board.

Why I love to SUP and how I discovered it…
I am always looking for the next challenge. I found SUP through Acrobatics and Yoga. For over 10 years I have been discovering new ways to share my passions for Yoga, Acrobatics and Slacklining, the SUP is a natural progression to this! We are able to use the SUP for many forms of Play and Adventure. The Inflatable SUP has proved essential in our quest to set up some of the most epic Waterlines (slacklines over water) in the world, from remote islands off the coast of New Caledonia to waterfall pools in NZ.

The body of water you’ll most likely find me on…
I travel the world from remote tropical islands to the the frigid rivers and lakes in both hemispheres the Hala SUP allows us to explore all of this worlds wet places.

Which boards I’m riding? Which one is my favorite? …
I love the Asana and when we need a expedition worthy board the Atcha is where its at!

My next dream paddling adventure is…
We are on a quest to set as many waterlines as possible every line requires a paddle approch!

What I do when I am not paddling?
I spend 6 months of the year traveling in the #PeaceLoveCar teaching Slackro (Slackline inspired acrobatics) and slacklining across North America. The other 6 months are spent teaching and Playing in Asia, Europe and Oceania!

Why I love to SUP and how I discovered it…

I love to SUP because it brings me into a state of harmony, happiness and balance.  When I’m standup paddleboarding I’m vibrantly alive and present with my body, my mind, the water, the sky, with all life.  I love the versatility of the sport – from practicing SUP Yoga, to prone paddling, surfing, fitness or flatwater cruising, paddleboarding brings everything I’m passionate about together on any available body of water.  Technically, standup paddling is everything that I love about surfing.  It’s both physically challenging and mentally calming.  The moment my feet touch the board, a smile comes to my face and I feel free.  There are few experiences more enjoyable.

Raised on the sunny coast of California, I have great memories of long summer days spent in and beside the ocean as a child.  But my real love affair with water began the instant I stood up on a surfboard and rode a wave for the first time.  Decades later, after relocating to inland NC, my passion for surfing led me to explore the world of paddleboarding.  My father, a skilled waterman and lifelong surfer, introduced me to the sport in 2010 and I was hooked!  North Carolina’s access to beautiful lakes, rivers, the ocean, and mild weather year round made it the perfect setting for learning and falling in love with SUP. In the spring of 2013, I turned my love of paddleboarding into a career and became a certified SUP coach. I founded LYFSUP, a year ’round SUP and SUP yoga school dedicated to sharing the stoke, adventure, and benefits of the sport with others!

The body of water you’ll most likely find me on…

Beautiful Jordan Lake State Park, NC or the Pacific Ocean in my native Santa Cruz, California.

Which boards I’m riding? Which one is my favorite? …

I’m smitten with just about every board HALA makes.  But if I had to choose a favorite, it’d be the Carbon Playa.

My next dream paddling adventure is…

The Maui to Molokai race in Hawaii….a girl can dream.

What I do when I am not paddling?

Study photography, practice yoga, surf, knit mostly scarves… (lots and lots of them), vegan recipe hunt, adventure in our airstream (or plan adventures!), ballroom dance with my other half, and entertain our 2 golden doodle kids.
